Where Nebraska wants your Schedule 1
Nebraska requires all applicants registering a vehicle at a declared gross weight of 55,000 pounds (28 ton) or more to present proof of payment to the County Treasurer before the vehicle can be registered. It accepts an unusually wide range: a receipted Schedule 1, a photocopy plus cancelled check, an electronic receipt with the dated e-file watermark, or an IRS electronic payment confirmation.
Whichever counter you end up at, the document is the same: the Schedule 1 the IRS returns after processing your Form 2290, either manually stamped or carrying the e-file watermark. E-filing returns it within minutes, which matters when registration or a plate renewal is waiting on it.
Two accommodations most states do not offer
During July through September, Nebraska accepts the receipted Form 2290 from the preceding tax period — useful while the new period is still processing. The state also runs an Alternative Proof of Payment Program for filers who cannot produce the standard documents. And if ownership transferred within the last 60 days no proof is required, though you must still file with the IRS by the due date.
Apportioned (IRP) registration in Nebraska
If you run in two or more jurisdictions, you register through the International Registration Plan rather than as a purely intrastate vehicle. In Nebraska that is handled by Nebraska DMV Motor Carrier Services. Proof of HVUT payment is part of the IRP application and renewal — an apportioned account cannot add a taxable vehicle whose Form 2290 is unpaid.
The federal side, unchanged by state
