Where Pennsylvania wants your Schedule 1

PennDOT applies the requirement at 55,000 pounds and accepts a copy of the Schedule 1 date-stamped "paid" by the IRS, or an EFTPS e-file receipt. Renewal applicants must submit a receipted 2290 listing every apportioned vehicle in the fleet; if the validated form has not come back yet, a copy of the submitted 2290 plus both sides of the cancelled remittance works.

Whichever counter you end up at, the document is the same: the Schedule 1 the IRS returns after processing your Form 2290, either manually stamped or carrying the e-file watermark. E-filing returns it within minutes, which matters when registration or a plate renewal is waiting on it.

Everything expires May 31, and there is no two-year option

All Pennsylvania apportioned registrations expire on May 31, so the whole fleet renews on one date. And while many Pennsylvania plates can be renewed on a two-year cycle, that option is not available for IRP-registered vehicles — apportioned fleets renew annually.

Apportioned (IRP) registration in Pennsylvania

If you run in two or more jurisdictions, you register through the International Registration Plan rather than as a purely intrastate vehicle. In Pennsylvania that is handled by PennDOT Apportioned Registration Program (717-412-5300). Proof of HVUT payment is part of the IRP application and renewal — an apportioned account cannot add a taxable vehicle whose Form 2290 is unpaid.
